Book Review-Think And Grow Rich

Name—Think And Grow Rich
Author—Napoleon Hill
Number of pages—233

The book Think And Grow Rich is a summary of all it takes to build a business and set it on an automatic gear movement from the first day onwards.
The dictates of the book are the basics without dilution. It is based on positive philosophy and psychology—what you think is what you will be. The writer makes it clear that there is no magic, accident or miracle to wealth creation if not the ones someone personally orchestrates knowingly and unknowingly. According to him, all one has accumulated in life is a sum total of what the person knows.
Going through the book, all the names mentioned there are the captains in various fields in the entire United States of America. These men are in politics, management, sales/marketing, arts, music, invention/discoveries et cetra. One thing is peculiar about these people, these men who are the fulcrum of what we know today as America are not men of certificate education but men who are pure thinkers and acted positively. Thinking makes the difference. No wonder a popular maxim says that thinking is the hardest thing to do. Good thought sets people in their desired calibration!
All through the book, history of great men are given prominence in its simplest and educative summary. You will come across Ford who others dubbed an illiterate but built Ford Motor Corporation from nothing but imagination and persistence, the enchanted kettle talking about the origin of the bottle with the best contours Coca-Cola, the men who fought with their brains to give birth to the entity called America by risking the gallows, Bernes who taught his way to become a partner with the great inventor Edison, the savvy personality of Charles Schwab in building United State Steel Corporation, the speech that gave birth to Illinois Institute of Technology as delivered by a priest, the list is endless.
Success in wealth creation as he is vocal about is a product of various attributes coordinated in the right proportions. These attributes includes:- Desire—the starting point of all achievement, Faith—the belief that whatever one is going after is obtainable, Persistence—the only shield against failure, Auto-suggestion—what you tell yourself you will voluntarily do in real life, and Organised planning—how to go after seems too far from you and pocket it with application of winning strategies.
On another side, he outlined element that causes many to perpetual losers in life. Chief among them is Procrastination—shifting till tomorrow what should have been done days ago and Fear—being afraid of what has not yet happened. According to him, fear has different ways of presenting itself as loss of different things. When fear reigns, procrastination creeps in boldly and dictates the way things will go with lots of negativity.
The author directed the attention of all seeking wealth to the place of transformed partnership. Partnership is all he is talking about when he mentioned mastermind group. A mastermind group is a group of mind who came together to carry out a specific assignment with perfection. Thus any successful person must practice bringing people together and working harmoniously with them and equally achieve some tangible goals. To support the work of masterminds, he advocates tapping ideas from the “invisible” counsellors and seating for ideas. The invisible counsellors are achievers and role models that may be living or dead who you will think about their approach to issues and draw inspirations and inference from the wealth of their personalities, while seating for ideas is taking an extra time to dissect a given challenge and factor out the most suitable and qualified answers to that challenge. Thinking makes the difference in any issues.
Some personal analyses are added with questions to draw ones attention to personal effectiveness. These researched questions are offered by the author so that the reader of this book will understand that he or she is totally responsible for what happens around him in life.
The name of the book is Think and Grow Rich, why did the author opt for that name? Get this right, thinking right and acting right is all that spells success in all realm of life. Riches and wealth is within your environment only your thinking and disposition makes the difference.
In his closing paragraph, Napoleon Hill quotes the sayings of Immortal Emerson, ”if we are related, we shall meet” which he rephrases thus “if we are related, we have through this pages meet”
